With the recent cold wet days the weather has me reminiscing over our warm summer. Working out in the garden. This past year was our first real attempt at a real garden. I really love being outside with my hands in the dirt. Watching seeds turn into food at the dinner table. I was even able to share some bounty with friends, and family. I was not born with a green thumb so I still have a lot of learning to do! I focused ,mostly on veggies this time round and planted broccoli, green beans, lettuce, chives, and tomatoes. I was gifted strawberries and raspberries.

We started our garden this year by building some raised garden beds. I want to build more this coming year and expand into flowers as well. Always BIG plans around here! Watching Instagram stories I saw a blogger build their raised beds out of fence boards. They are cheap and easy to come by.. perfect for beginners like us. So we did just that! Built two 6x3 foot beds. I was given a old water trough and used that, as well as two old smaller raised beds I had bought. All in all I think she came together beautifully.

We were even able to start a walk way and define the space a little more with some brick Eelke picked up for free of Facebook marketplace. This year I would like to focus on things that can be canned and used throughout the year. I love the idea of a true homestead someday but we are taking baby steps. Lots of learning to do. I also want to do, as I mentioned a flower garden. Fresh bouquets from the yard sound dreamy.

Now.. Rain rain go away!
